Welcome to Our Indigenous Art and Culture workshops and performers on NAARM

Aboriginal Cultural Immersions bring local Victorian-based Indigenous artists and cultural leaders to your corporate or business office, conference, government department or sporting and community events. We deliver educational programs, art and culture workshops to your Melbourne venue. Our focus is on history, culture and resilience.

The city of Melbourne is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Kulin Nation, comprising the Wurundjeri, BoonWurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples. These First Nations groups have lived in and cared for this region for tens of thousands of years, maintaining a strong cultural, spiritual and social connection to the land.

Greater Melbourne has a vibrant Aboriginal community and a rich, detailed history of interaction with colonial settlers. The city’s traditional name is Naarm in the Woiwurrung and Boonwurrung languages. The use of 'Naarm' is increasingly recognised and welcomed in cultural and official contexts.

Wurundjeri people speak the Woi Wurrung Language, while the Bunurong speak the Boonwurrung language, and the Wadawurrung speak the Wathaurong language.

Aboriginal Cultural Immersions collaborates with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal artists, musicians, and performers to deliver traditional ceremonies, didgeridoo and dance performances, educational programs, and art and culture workshops to your office, stadium, conference, government department or community event.

Local Wurundjeri or Bunurong elders are available across Greater Melbourne and Geelong, on Country, to deliver Welcome To Country.

Aboriginal art and culture workshops and team-building activities in Melbourne, Geelong, and throughout Victoria are designed to foster engagement with our Aboriginal facilitators, who bring extensive knowledge and a passion for helping your team understand the histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Wurundjeri People in Contemporary Melbourne Today

Wurundjeri people still live in Melbourne and practice their culture. Even though the city has grown a lot, connection to Country is still strong.

The Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Corporation helps protect cultural heritage, leads Welcome to Country ceremonies, and teaches the public.

Wurundjeri culture is seen more in Melbourne through public art, cultural events, dual place names, and recognition of Traditional Owners. Still, issues like inequality, health gaps, and intergenerational trauma remain.

Reviving culture is a key focus for the Wurundjeri community.

Bringing back language, running cultural education, and learning about Country all help strengthen identity and keep traditions going.

Elders lead the sharing of knowledge and make sure cultural practices are respected. Education is important for reconciliation and for recognising Aboriginal culture as a key part of Melbourne’s identity.

Non-Aboriginal Australians should engage respectfully with Wurundjeri history and culture and support Indigenous-led projects.
